Privacy policy
The short version: this site collects very little, sells nothing about you to anyone, and doesn't want more of your data than it needs. The details are below, in plain language.
What does this site collect about you?
Anonymous usage statistics through Google Analytics, whatever you choose to send through the contact form, and — if you subscribe — your email address for the newsletter. That's the complete list.
No data is sold or rented to anyone. There are no advertising trackers, no sponsored content, and no third parties buying access to readers.
What does the analytics tool see?
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people read and how they find them — information used only to decide what to write and improve next. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate (city-level) location. It does not tell me who you are.
Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely across all websites with Google's browser opt-out add-on.
What happens to contact form messages?
When you use the contact form, the message — along with the name and email address you provide — is delivered to my email inbox. It's used for exactly one purpose: reading and replying to you. Contacting me does not add you to any mailing list, and your details are never shared with anyone else.
If you'd like a past message deleted, ask through the same form and it will be.
What about the newsletter?
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is stored with Mailer Lite, the service that sends it, and used only to send you the newsletter and deliver anything you signed up to receive (such as a downloadable template). Like most newsletter services, it records basic engagement such as whether an email was opened.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes you promptly, no questions asked, and your address is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for their marketing.
What's stored on your device?
Some interactive features on this site — such as checklists that remember which items you've ticked off — save that progress in your own browser's local storage. That information stays on your device, is never transmitted to this site or anyone else, and disappears if you clear your browser data.
Beyond that and the Google Analytics cookies described above, this site sets no cookies of its own.
What third-party services does this site rely on?
A few pieces of the site are delivered by outside services, which may see your IP address in the ordinary course of serving you content: the web host that serves these pages (which, like virtually all hosts, keeps standard server logs), a content delivery network that serves the site's icon font, and — on pages with embedded videos — YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, which is configured not to set tracking cookies unless you play the video.
None of these are advertising relationships, and none of them receive information about you from me.
What are your choices?
You can read everything on this site without creating an account or providing any information. You can block analytics with the opt-out linked above or any content blocker (the site works fine with one). You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. And you can ask — through the contact form — what information I hold about you, or ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and I'll do it.
This site is written for professional audiences and isn't directed at children.
What if this policy changes?
If the site's data practices change — for example, when a paid product or new tool is introduced — this page will be updated before the change takes effect, and the "last updated" date at the top will reflect it. Consistent with the site's editorial standards, changes are made visibly, not quietly.
